Matthew W. Karshner, M.D., Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, has joined the Medical Staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Karshner will serve as Medical Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation/Physiatry at Southeast and will also have an outpatient clinic at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape.
Physiatrists help the treatment team coordinate the rehabilitation process for patients: who have suffered a stroke or are dealing with other neurological disorders; patients with brain or spinal cord injuries; patients with muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy; and many others.

Dr. Karshner's experience
Dr. Karshner holds a B.A. degree from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. He received his M.D. degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus.
He completed a transitional internship at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. Dr. Karshner also completed a clinical research fellowship at the Medical College of Ohio, Department of Radiation Oncology, and a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Medicine at Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans.
He has served as a senior instructor and assistant professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rochester, NY.
