The term "occupational medicine" covers a wide variety of health services for employers and their employees.

While the most utilized occupational medicine service is the treatment of on-the-job injuries, occupational medicine also helps employers prevent and employees avoid injuries by evaluating individuals and their ability/readiness to perform their duties.

Establishing an injury "cause" can help prevent future injuries and can improve risk management.

Learn more about our Director, Thomas W. Marsh, M.D., MPH.
He is board certified in occupational medicine.

Examination Services

The Occupational Medicine Clinic is capable of providing a wide variety of examination services. Our experienced registered nursing staff is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to coordinate employer and employee needs.

Substance Abuse Testing

Ensuring that employees neither use illegal drugs nor misuse prescription medications or alcohol is crucial to an effective safety and injury prevention program. The Occupational Medicine Clinic is staffed with certified specimen collectors and breath alcohol testing personnel. Thomas W. Marsh, M.D., M.P.H., director of the clinic, is a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) available to review individual drug screens.

Work Injury and Case Management

Managing an on-the-job injury involves obtaining a detailed history of the injured employee and the incident that caused the injury; rapid and appropriate treatment; and a timely return to work. Minimizing lost work time reduces job deconditioning, improves employee morale and helps prevent re-injury. Regardless of whether an injured employee is treated in the Occupational Medicine Clinic or in a hospital emergency room, follow-up care can be arranged by the staff of our clinic.
