Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Issues

The temporomandibular (jaw) joint consists of the lower jaw, the mandible and the temporal bone.  Symptoms of TMJ disorder may include limited movement or locking of the jaw, radiating pain in the face, neck or shoulders, painful clicking and popping and grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth.

Other symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, earaches and hearing problems.  Angie Schwab, MPT and Andrea Marchi, PT, CSCS are specially trained in the treatment of TMJ disorders.

Conservative treatment consists of ROM exercises, self-care instructions, education about the joint, postural training, manual therapy and modalities as needed to restore function.
