What is a Registered Dietitian?

The initials "R.D." after someone's name means "Registered Dietitian," which is an authority on the role of food and nutrition in health. It means this person is a reliable source of nutritional information and advice on eating and health. To earn the R.D. credential, an individual must complete a degree in nutrition or a related field from an accredited college or university program that is approved by the American Dietetic Association. Completion of an internship program is also a requirement to become a dietitian.
